Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves, traditionally consumed in East Asia. It is special in two aspects of farming and processing: the green tea plants used for matcha are shade-grown for three to four weeks before harvest, and the stems and veins are removed during processing. Matcha is high in a catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which is believed to have cancer-fighting effects on the body.

  • 1 tsp matcha green tea powder
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp warm water
  • 250ml cold milk or 300ml hot milk


In a cup or a mug add 1 tsp matcha tea powder and 2 tsp sugar in it.

  1.  Add the warm water and mix with a spoon or with a whisk until it is a smooth dark green paste to ensure no lumps form.
  2. Warm the milk in a small saucepan and pour into the mug, you can use cold iced milk for latte.
  3. Now mix the paste and milk together until smooth and light green in color.
  4. Sprinkle some of matcha green tea powder on the top for garnish.
